Handmade Islamic calligraphy written in Arabic and made from wood.
The inscription begins with:
Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim - In the Name of Allah the Most Beneficent and the Most Merciful.
This is followed by 'Ashadu An La Ilaha Illallah Wa Ashadu Anna Muhammadan Rasulullah'. It is a declaration of ones faith and translates into English as:
“I bear witness that there is no God worthy of worship except ALLAH and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Servant and Messenger”.
This is written in Arabic calligraphy and depicts a man praying. The phrase is written exactly once to create the work.
The notion within the words is to define, that once you utter the Shahada (the declaration of faith). It is not a monolithic event that is enunciated in a vacuum and simply makes you a Muslim. The Shahada should become your moral and ethical foundation and a pillar of your very existence, within this world. To know and understand that ALLAH should always comes first, through your akhlaq (practice of virtue, morality and manners in Islamic theology and philosophy) in meaning.
It has to be uttered in every moment of your being, in mind, body and soul. It has to be acted upon daily in both your thoughts and actions. Thus, ‘nothing should stand between yourself and ALLAH. Not anger, greed, fear, arrogance, hatred, wealth, fame, materialism, celebrities, imams, or any other custodians of moral or religious leadership. To believe in your deepest values and your rules, but never lord them over others. If you keep breaking other people’s hearts, whatever religious duty you perform is no good. To stay away from all sorts of idolatry, for they will blur your vision. Let ALLAH and only ALLAH be your guide. Learn the Truths, but be careful not to make a fetish out of your truths'.
